Little Monsters Daycare: Week in Review (Sept 23rd, 2024) – My Body: 5 Senses

This week at Little Monsters Daycare, we immersed ourselves in the theme of “My Body: The Five Senses,” helping our little learners discover how their bodies engage with the world. Each age group explored their senses through fun and interactive activities, enriching their understanding of how sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell help them navigate their surroundings.

In the Infants class, our youngest explorers were fascinated by their own reflections as they spent time looking in the mirror, a simple yet captivating activity that helped them develop self-recognition. Teachers supported early language development by mimicking the sounds made by the infants, creating an engaging back-and-forth interaction that delighted the little ones. To further stimulate their sense of touch, the infants enjoyed exploring sensory mats and textured toys, which provided them with a variety of sensations to discover.

For our Toddlers, outdoor play took center stage as they experienced the joy of water play under the open sky. They experimented with both warm and cool water, learning to distinguish between temperatures through their sense of touch. Another fun activity involved feeding baby dolls, which allowed the toddlers to practice nurturing behaviors while using their hands to improve motor skills.

The Twos class dove into a world of color and texture. The children had a blast painting with bright colors, exploring their artistic side while engaging their sense of sight. They were equally captivated by sensory bottles filled with a variety of materials, giving them a chance to explore how different objects move and sound when shaken. With fall approaching, the twos eagerly investigated the texture and sound of autumn leaves, crinkling them in their hands and listening to the satisfying crunch.

Our Preschool and Pre-K students took their exploration of the senses to a new level. They challenged their bodies as they navigated the Pikler triangle, using their physical senses to balance and move with confidence. The playground came alive with sound as the children participated in a lively musical parade, marching and playing instruments in a celebration of rhythm and movement. To wrap up the week, the children used their senses to create a bar chart identifying physical characteristics such as hair and eye color, introducing them to basic data collection in a fun, hands-on way.

Next week, we’re diving into an exciting new theme: Leaves! Our little ones will embark on an exploration of the diverse world of leaves, learning about their shapes, colors, and importance in nature. Through hands-on activities, engaging stories, and creative art projects, the children will enhance their observation skills and deepen their appreciation for the natural world.

Be sure to check back next week for more exciting updates from Little Monsters Daycare as we continue to inspire curiosity and learning in our young explorers!
